The museum building was opened on 5 March 1957 as part of Ghana’s independence celebrations. 


Find here some statues and monuments and traditional buildings of Ghana, as well scenes of traditional life style of the people of Ghana preserved.

The National Museum's outdoor exhibition area is a showcase of West African life, and statues of Ghanaian leaders. included a Kwame Nkrumah - Ghana's first elected president - statues, once destroyed, after 1966.
Objects of archaeology, ethnography as well as fine art find place in the National Museum building.
Objects at the archaeology section range from the stone age period to the recent historical past. 

Those exhibits are on permanent exhibition.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

The original Statue Of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Which Stood In Front Of Parliament House, Accra.
Attacked By A Mob In The Wake Of A Military And police Coup D`Etat On 24th February, 1966.
Recovered For The national Museum In 1975.
Mounted By The Ghana Museums And Monuments Board And Unveiled On Thursday, March 3, 1977, By Mr. E. Owusu Fordwor.
